Time Management - The Winning Mentality

“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”

-Vince Lombardi

Time Management

Time management is self discipline in action, and self discipline is the key to success

  1. GOALS

    1. Personal / Family - why you’re alive

    2. Business - career, financial, material

    3. Self development - your ability and willingness to develop yourself

      1. What would you do if you just won a million dollars - what would you do differently

      2. What would you do if you just learnt today, you only have 6 months to live? -tells you your values

      3. What one thing would you set as a goal if you knew you could not fail? - why you’re put on this earth

    4. Need to be in writing!!!!! Clear & Specific!!! Carry them around with you

  2. Organized plans of action

    1. Action without planning is the cause of every failure

    2. Take your goal, and write out every step that you need to take to achieve it. Order of steps

    3. Continuous goal setter and planner

    4. Either you are working towards the accomplishment

  3. Analysis

    1. Make a list! The week before, the night before (subconscious goes to work while you’re asleep

      1. When you use a list, every time you check something off - it gives you a feeling of accomplishment

      2. A successful life is based on a series of successful days, and successful days are based on working through a list

  4. Set priorities!

    1. What is relevant, and what is irrelevant

    2. 80/20 rule - 80% of the value of what you do is contained in the 20% of what you do

    3. Highly effective people work on the vital few vs on the trivial many

    4. What is the most valuable use of my time, right now?

    5. Before you begin, ask if this the most important thing I could be doing

    6. What impact will the accomplishment of this task have on my future?

    7. Deal with the opportunities of the future, unimportant will deal with the present or the past, not the future

  5. Concentration

    1. LEARN TO CONCENTRATE - on one thing at a time. Stay with it until it’s finished

    2. Once you have made a list - organized by priority - stay with it until it’s finished. If it takes a long time, that’s ok because if it is the most important than it will be the most effective

    3. Gives you a feeling of energy and enthusiasm

“The very worst thing in the world, is to do very well what need not be done at all.”

A - The things that you must do B - the things that you should do C - The things it would be nice to do if you’ve got all your As & Bs done D - Delegate E - Eliminate
